SEB (Safe Exam Browser)
According to the official website, "Safe Exam Browser (SEB) is a reliable, free, and useful internet browser environment to conduct online assessments securely."
When using SEB, you will be locked out of all other programs on your computer. You should save anything important and close your programs/apps before using SEB.
Installing SEB
Profs are encouraged to give you a practice Quiz using SEB before requiring you to use the software for a Quiz that has points attached.
When you access a quiz in Moodle that requires the use of SEB, you will see a few buttons. The first one helps you Download Safe Exam Browser so you can install it. This should only need to be done once unless a newer version comes out. You will use the Launch Safe Exam Browser button to access the Quiz.
Clicking on the Download Safe Exam Browser button will take you to their website. Click on the download button (it should present the correct option for your needs).
Clicking the download button will take you to a site called SourceForge where the download should start immediately. If not, click on the green Download button.
Now you will need to install SEB. If you are not familiar with installing software or are having difficulties, please contact the Service Desk (helpdesk@acadiau.ca, 902-585-4357).
Running SEB
Once you have it installed, go back to your course in Moodle and click on the Launch Safe Exam Browser button to take the Quiz. This will load SEB and give you a Moodle login window. Log in as normal.
You may see an alert window pop up saying Running Applications Detected and asking if you want to terminate them. If you will not lose any data, click on the Yes button. If you click on the No button, SEB will close and allow you to save your data and close your programs before launching again.
You should now see a page with the Attempt quiz now button. Click on this button to get started. When you are done, submit your answers as you normally would using the Finish attempt..., Submit all and finish, and the 2nd Submit all and finish confirmation buttons. You should now see the confirmation page telling you that you have Finished and what date and time you submitted your answers.
Click on the big power icon at the bottom right of your screen and then the Yes button in the Quit? popup window to exit SEB.
