Quiz Settings

Of course, before you can manipulate the settings of a quiz, you must first create the activity.

Creating A Quiz Activity

Let's make a quiz activity!

  1. Log into ACORN and enter your course.
  2. Click on the Turn editing on button (if it is not already on).
  3. In the appropriate week or topic section click on the Add Add an activity or resource link and select Quiz under ACTIVITIES, then click on the Add button.
  4. Enter a Name - this is the link that the students will click on to access the quiz.
  5. Timing - this is where you control when the Quiz is available and for how long.
    • Open the quiz - select the date and time at which you want the Quiz to be available, after selecting the Enable checkbox.
    • Close the quiz - select the date and time at which you want the Quiz to be unavailable, after selecting the Enable checkbox.
    • Time limit - if you only want the Quiz to be available for a certain amount of time, set the time limit after selecting the Enable checkbox. The Quiz will become unavailable to the students either when the closing time is reached or the time limit expires, whichever comes first.

Allowing Students to See Their Marks
  • Go into your course in ACORN.
  • Click on the appropriate Quiz.
  • In the Administration block on the left, click on Edit settings.
  • Expand the section called Review options.
  • The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th columns are the ones you should be concerned with (During the quiz should be left as is).
    • Immediately after the attempt means exactly that. Students will be able to see the options you've checked as soon as a Quiz is submitted.
    • Later, while the quiz is open means those options are available to them after they submit their quizzes and until the Quiz closes.
    • After the quiz is closed... these options are available immediately after the Quiz closes.
  • Leaving out the feedback options, here is what each option means:
    • The attempt - what the students actually entered as an answer.
    • Marks - the scores they received for their answers.
    • Right answer - what the correct answer actually is.
User Overrides
  1. Log into ACORN and enter your course.
  2. Click on the Quiz that needs the Override.
  3. Click on the gear icon gear icon near the top right and select User overrides (view image).
  4. Click on Add user override (view image).
  5. Set the Require password, Open the quiz, Close the quiz, Time limit, and Attempts allowed settings for the particular student (view image).
  6. Click in the Search box and start typing in the student's name until you see it appear, then select it. It should replace the No selection text (view image).
  7. If you are only dealing with one student, click on the Save button. Otherwise, click on the Save and enter another override button, and repeat. When you set up the last student, be sure to click on the Save button (view image).
  8. You should now see the results of what you have set up. It's always a good idea to double-check the settings at this point (view image).
